We keep chickens in our back yard. This year, we started with ten chicks that we got from our local Farm & Fleet. We were certain they would all become hens that would lay brown eggs.
We ended up with two roosters. And our first green egg just showed up in the coop yesterday.
This whole situation makes me think about other convictions I have that may be wrong, but they have yet to reveal themselves. I hold quite a few strong beliefs based on what I believe to be truths. Political beliefs, spiritual beliefs, relationship beliefs—they’re all shaped by information provided by people and resources I trust.
But what if they’re not right?
Reader, our country on the whole is so angry. And much of that anger is based on limited information that we receive on-line. But what if there’s more than meets the eye? I think there’s wisdom to approaching life with looser convictions and more curiosity. I’m not saying we should be passive in the face of injustice. I’m just saying we’d be smart to pause and ask more questions before we assume we know it all.
Let’s stay curious out there this week. We have more to learn about each other and the world than we think. Wishing you a wonder-full Thanksgiving. See you next Monday. -Em
