The Moon Hunter's Moon

Today is the full Hunter’s Moon.  I love little more than looking at the sky.  I got up extra early today, made coffee, and then took the time to sit on my porch and watch the big amber ball hug the horizon and cast moon shadows on our forest floor. According to Native American traditions, the bright Hunter’s Moon signals a time to use the extra light to track animals that have grown fat over the summer and stockpile them for the winter.

I just like stockpiling another moon to my memory bank.

Nature is free medicine. I’ve heard a lot of people say they feel calmer by the shores of a body of water. Some of my friends turn to the woods for peace of mind, and others head to the mountains.  For me, it’s looking up.  Nothing like celestial splendor to trivialize the problems of the earth.

Reader, we have an election in a week.  And whatever comes from it, folks are bound to get all worked up.  If the stress of it gets to you like it does to me, don’t forget: you have access to the greatest painkiller ever invented.  It’s right over your head all day long.

I leave you with this picture of last Tuesday night’s sky.  It stole my breath and made me stop everything to look at it.  Let’s keep our heads pointed towards the clouds this week, and I’ll see you next Monday.
