Work With What You've Got

One of those most inspiring people I know personally is a man named Gerald Dowd.  Gerald is not only an amazing songwriter and guitarist, but also a drummer that has played in dozens of bands, including mine.

On November 1st, he's going to be playing with 14 bands in 12 hours.  All the proceeds from the show go to Beyond Hunger, an organization in Oak Park, Illinois that helps people with food insecurities.  He calls it “Day of the Dowd.”

I think he may be actually crazy.  But he gets things done with what he's got. And I've never seen him turn down an opportunity to help.

Imagine if the whole world were like that.

Reader, this is yet another reminder: we don't need money, possessions, or connections to make a difference.  Right now, we're sitting on skills and resources that we can use to make a positive impact on people and the planet.  Every passing day reminds me that this is truly all we're here for: to be good to each other.

If you're free, my set is for Day of the Dowd is at 12:30 pm, and more details can be found here.  Let's get out there nourish the people. See you next Monday. -Em
