I sent my 9 year-old son to school today with a petition. A couple weeks ago, his school destroyed the habitat of a fox that was living on school grounds. He’s been upset and feeling helpless. Today, he’s armed with a mission to get as many signatures as he can. He’s hoping to change the mind of the school.
I always feel proud of him, but today I’m bursting with it.
Reader, helplessness is real. There are things that truly cannot be helped. But sometimes there are actions we can take to tackle a problem, and that’s how we turn helplessness into positive action. My son may not succeed on this issue, but at least he’s going down swinging.
I feel inspired by him, and I’m letting his resilience into my heart this week. I hope it gets into yours too. Let's keep our chins up, I’ll see you next Monday. -Em
