On Wednesday, a kid at my daughter’s school threw a lunchbox at her head. She ended up in the ER. Today she has 4 staples in her head, whiplash, and bruises on her back from fainting at the sight of so much blood.
My first response to this whole event was to want to find the other kid and give them a piece of my mind. Don’t mess with Mama. But as the week went on, I came to the obvious conclusion that no amount of rage would heal my daughter’s emotional wounds. She didn’t need my anger. She needed my love.
Plus, I’m a softie.
My squishy heart saw me through the weekend, and I felt peace on Sunday as the rain came down. I spent as much time with my daughter as I could. We played. We sang. We danced. And she’s recovering much better than she would have if I’d have gone the vigilante justice route on the lunchbox kid.
Reader, anger is so strong. I feel it a lot. At myself. At others. At the world. But it doesn’t do anything to heal us of our pain. Instead we can redirect it. Be fueled by it. Channel it into being a force for good for someone. If anger strikes this week, let’s not fall victim to rage. Be a softie for yourself and others. I’ll see you next Monday. -Em
