Corn Flight

I got myself into a real funk last week.  In short: I ruminated on a negative chain of events until I couldn't see through my own clouded mind.  Then I isolated myself to try to work through it, but that didn't help much either.

But on Thursday night, the head chef of my restaurant walked up to me with a new creation.  It was a “sweet corn flight," where he actually made the corn fly over the board.  He put it down in front of me and said, “I'm trying to cheer you up.  Is this working?”

I've never laughed so deeply in my life.  And just like that, the spell was broken.

Reader, there is so much to take seriously.  Every minute of every day, somebody is hurting.  We could spend our entire lives in deep sorrow. But then we wouldn't be of much use to ourselves or anybody else. If you too find yourself despairing this week, let's not forget the power of laughter.  We can't take on the world in a funk.  See you next Monday. -Em
