Stork

It’s a boy!

Reader, it’s hard to believe that just one week ago, I was begging you to do a labor dance for me.  Tonight, I’m sitting here in bed, my dog at my feet, my husband and my 5-day old baby at my side. Holy. Moly.

I was induced last Monday morning.  By Tuesday morning, not much had happened, so they broke my water. By 2 pm, I was giving birth to a 7 lb 4 oz bundle of handsome. We named him John, after my father. Below is a picture of him, less than 24 hours old.

While I’ve been a dog-Mom for the past 9 years, I really can’t describe what an interesting feeling it is, being the mom of a person. I was discharged from the hospital on Thursday night, and since then, I’ve hardly taken my eyes off this kid.

Personality develops at an early age. I can already see John’s: he’s laid-back, curious, and loyal.   He’s got a little of my stubbornness, and he also has my giant hands.  He has Mark’s good nature, and his facial features.  The doctor said John has a birthmark called a stork bite on the back of his neck and very strong muscles.  John seems to fit into our lives so well…I can’t remember a time he wasn’t here. Life feels perfect.  Now if I can just meet that Kickstarter goal this week...

I only have 4 days left to raise $13,000.  I have no idea how it’s going to happen, but I haven’t lost hope.  By next Sunday, we’ll know one way or the other: either I raise the funds or I don’t.  But my dear Reader: I so hope we make it!  The new album arrives on Wednesday, and I’d love to mail it to all of the backers. Not to mention, I’d love to get back to work on the building.

No matter what happens, I am so grateful to you for checking in here with me. As always, I hope you are well.  Life is grand. -Em
